Just recently, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been involved in a controversy when details of his racial comments surfaced with the release of a book about the 2008 US Presidential election.

Because of his racist remarks, members of the Republican party has urged him to resign. Reid has already issued an apology to President Barack Obama for calling him “light skinned” with “no Negro dialect”, which was then accepted by the president.

This call for Reid’s resignation may bring good news to those who are pushing for online gambling in the US. Reid is one of the members of the Senate largely opposed to online gambling.

Senator Reid hails from Nevada where the gambling mecca is found. Analysts say that Reid’s opposition is mainly for the benefit of Las Vegas and Reno casinos in his home state.

Chances of Reid stepping down are very slim. Democrats seem to have united and have come into his defense.

But some say that with Reid out of the way, Representative Barney Frank, a fellow Democrat, would be able to have more chance of getting his online gambling bill passed.

It seems like not everyone in Nevada agrees with Senator Reid. Harrah’s Entertainment, the largest gaming company in the world based in Las Vegas, has already started an online gambling site. However, in accordance to US laws, American players are not accepted.
